      Position Summary:
      Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, in accordance with scheduled or periodic instructions, performs daily activities, planning and scheduling of personnel for specific ground tasks. Oversee the care of all common areas on campus. Direct department members, seasonal workers and oversee vendor activities related to grounds.

      Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Perform routine maintenance on all types of lawn equipment

      • Oversee that all areas on campus are being mowed, trimmed, watered, fertilized and cleared of litter properly, and on schedule.

      • Plan/direct work of assigned personnel via verbal and written orders

      • Complete mandatory trainings as required and train staff as needed

      • Interface with vendors and contractors and provide follow-up on services and tasks performed. Oversee landscaping contractors to ensure they are performing services as required.

      • Monitor progress of projects from start to completion

      • Assure a well-maintained maintenance grounds and inventory

      • Verify and submit for approval material purchase requisitions for grounds projects

      • Provide weekly update to the Assistant Director of Operations on all project and work order status

      • Work hands-on in the field and collaborate with department members

      • Safely operate power equipment, power tools, school-owned vehicles, and powered utility carts while performing assigned duties

      • Manage work order system, including checking assigned work orders, completing in a timer manner, inputting action taken and closing the work orders

      • Maintain school vehicles, golf carts, and utility vehicles including fueling vehicles and keeping proper records and inventory

      • Ensure equipment is in proper working condition – reporting defects to proper personnel

      • Fence and sign repair and replacement including any directional signage removal and installation

      • Notify supervisor of emergencies and safety concerns immediately

      • Adhere to all safety rules, policies and procedures set by the school, which may be modified from time to time

      • Perform other duties as assigned including load sharing with trades, housekeeping, set-ups, etc.

      Qualifications


      • Four (4) years of experience in grounds maintenance

      • Two (2) years of supervisory experience

      • Experience in maintaining sports fields preferred

      • Working knowledge of grounds maintenance and use of chemicals related to grounds care and irrigation systems

      • Strong verbal and written communication skills

      • Has a strong mechanical aptitude

      • Must be able to work overtime with sufficient notice and/or in emergency cases when sufficient notice is not possible. Overtime may include weekends and evening hours

      • Ability to perform strenuous physical activities for sustained periods of time including: lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead and carrying heavy objects and/or equipment

      • Ability to work in inclement and variable weather conditions for extended periods of time

      • Must hold a valid and current Florida’s Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

      • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment

      Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 50lbs or more repeatedly or continuously without limitation.
