      Mission: The Department of Defense, Veterans' and Emergency Management (DVEM) is responsible for all military, veterans and emergency management related operations within the State of Maine. It is established to coordinate and improve the discharge of the State Government's responsibility relating to military, veterans and emergency preparedness through the authorization, planning and provisions of resources, administration, operation and audit of activities in these areas. DVEM is a customer-focused organization providing quality services and benefits daily and in times of crisis, protects life, freedom, and property for all of Maine’s people.

      About the job:

      Work is performed under limited supervision. Teamwork is essential. We all help each other, regardless of our roles, thus a multi-technical skilled candidate with a diverse background is preferred, and consideration will be provided to a candidate with knowledge and the ability to read, understand, and follow manufacturers specifications and instructions for using, cleaning, and repairing machinery and equipment.

      Skills or knowledge required:

      • Knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment, methods for general grounds maintenance.
      • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions needed to perform mechanical repair work.
      • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather.
      • Ability to use standard power and hand tools.
      • Ability to clean, lubricate, and adjust small engines, and other machinery and equipment.
      • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
      • Ability to perform general mechanical repair work.

      Minimum qualifications:

      One (1) year experience in groundskeeping work demonstrating leadership skills.
