      Anticipated Start Date:

      November 27, 2023 (Majority of training is in Spring 2024 with the exception of a few activities Fall 2023)

      Anticipated End Date (If Applicable):

      Upon successful completion of our training program in Spring 2024, trainees are eligible to be hired as Group Fitness Instructors for Rec Well

      Anticipated Hours Per Week:

      5 hours

      Schedule:

      5-10 hours per week, including weekends and nights. Based on semester group fitness schedule. Hours range from 6:40 AM to 8:50 PM M-F and weekends

      • Level one tryouts will take place at the Nicholas Recreation Center, 2 – 3:30pm on Sunday, October 29 and Sunday, November 5.
        • If selected, you will take a 45-minute high intensity interval class. You will be evaluated on how well you follow cues, your form and execution, and your enthusiasm.
        • If selected, you will receive directions and guidance to prepare for level two tryouts.
      • Level two tryouts will take place at the Nicholas Recreation Center.
        • You will be assigned to an hour and a half time block between 9am – 3pm on Friday, November 17.
        • You will lead a 12-minute workout (warm-up, tabatas and strength/core exercises) and will be evaluated on your cueing, execution, and enthusiasm.
        • If selected, you will be invited for an interview.

      Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

      $20.00 per hour for teaching / $15 per hour for in-service & training

      Qualifications:

      Must be a UW-Madison student studying on campus in 2024-2025.

      Experience attending Rec Well group fitness classes preferred

      No teaching experience necessary

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      Passionate to learn about exercise and leading mind-body classes

      Leadership, strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills

      Enjoy working with people

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      • Group Fitness Instructor Trainees attend training sessions, are assigned a mentor and co-lead assigned group fitness floor classes with their mentor.
      • Training & Mentoring Program
        • We’ll teach you everything you need to know.
        • Attend our Orientation on Monday, November 27 from 7 – 9pm.
        • Attend our paid training sessions are on January 20 – 22 and selected Saturdays and Sundays during the spring 2024 semester.
        • Co-lead with a current Floor instructor for two classes each week during the Spring 2024 semester.

      Physical Demands:

      Fitness level congruent with demands of teaching group fitness floor classes
