Job Description
- Req#: 790
- Visually inspect slab surface
- Work closely with Shift Foreman and Crane Operator
- Identify defects of surface steel slabs
- Perform a visual inspection of all equipment to be used in hand scarfing process (i.e., gas and oxygen regulators, hoses and hand torch)to ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
- Remove fins, mis-scarfs and machine gouges from the surface of all steel slabs
- Complete daily inspection reports.
- Identify and report any and all problems with equipment or slabs
- May be required to perform duties of Crane Operator and/or Robotic Operator
- Shoveling slag and scale build-up during down time
- Other duties as directed by supervisor
- Knowledge of harmful defects in steel surfaces (i.e., cracks, pinholes, and gouges)
- Knowledge of gas and oxygen torches and scarfing process
- Ability to push, pull, and pry up to 30 lbs and ability to lift 50 lbs
- Ability to shovel and tolerate noise, temperature variations, and environmental conditions
- Ability to maneuver equipment, stand, walk, and stoop for extended periods of time
