      Job summary

      To assist in the efficient, effective, safe and secure day to day operation and general maintenance across all four sites. Experience of DIY, painting and general maintenance, a positive 'can do' attitude, ability to find solutions, seek improvements and a flexible approach to undertake a wide variety of tasks are essential for the above position. Own transport is essential.

      Flexibility to working hours and some possible weekend work is required. Previous experience of healthcare premises and an understanding of building systems are preferred.

      Main duties of the job

      Assist in the efficent, effective, safe and secure day-to-day operation and general maintenance across all four sites.The post holder must have access to own transport and be able to travel freely around the four sites of Tyntesfield Medical Group to ensure day to day operation and general maintenance is offered to all sites. A travel allowance will be paid when required to travel between two or more sites during the same working day.

      Tyntesfield Medical Group in North Somerset is a 13 Partner General Practice with a patient list size currently of around 33,000 split across four sites: Tower House Medical Centre, Brockway Medical Centre, Backwell Medical Centre and Long Ashton Surgery.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      • Doing minor repairs and maintenance, including internal and external painting.
      • To maintain statutory Health and Safety records, logbooks, etc, through a regular monitoring programme.
      • To report to the appropriate manager and, where appropriate, to third-party contractors that the post holder cannot complete repairs of a specialist nature.
      • To undertake occasional, ad-hoc cleaning duties as required.
      • To supervise the security and safety of the sites and its users.
      • To liaise and report to the appropriate manager and emergency services on any incident or issues relating to the security and safety aspect of the building.
      • To be a contact for any incident or issues relating to the security and safety aspect of the building during out-hours.
      • Maintain the gardens and grounds clean and tidy, including collecting litter/leaf debris from grounds and gardens.
      • To ensure goods inward are received and held securely and distributed to their destinations.
      • To participate in stewarding duties when large numbers of patients are invited to an event.
      • To act as a responsible key holder for the building.
      • Grit sites in winter and ensure safe access for all, including snow and ice clearance.
      • Keep compound bin areas clean and tidy.
      • Regularly check fittings and furniture for repair.
      • To an agreed schedule, check, then lubricate/adjust door hinges/closures.
      • Adjust window handles when loose.
      • Refit non-operating light bulbs and starters.
      • Check radiator valves are operating after the close of systems over summer periods.
      • To assist in moving furniture, equipment, and other materials as and when required.
      • To accompany utilities/services personnel to read/check meters.
      • To liaise closely with contract maintenance staff.
      • Attend training programmes to ensure the safe and competent performance of all duties.
      • Perform routine fire alarm testing and assist in fire drills.
