Job summary
We have an opportunity for a part-time phlebotomist to join our Medical Practice. This is a unique opportunity to be part of, and contribute to, the development of a new and innovative primary care organisation. We are seeking a trained and experienced phlebotomist to undertake phlebotomy clinics as part of our clinical team. We are looking for someone 2/3 mornings per week working 8-2 - Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
We will require you to work across both surgery sites, Alderley Edge Medical Practice and Prestbury Medical Practice when required to undertake clinics. As such being a car driver with access to your own vehicle is essential.
You will work independently as part of the wider team, in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols with support from a GP on site during clinics, should this be required.

Main duties of the job
Perform phlebotomy on patients as per the standard operating procedure for obtaining blood from patients
Take effective measures to reduce patient anxiety related to blood taking procedures and ensure patient feels safe and well-informed throughout
Cross check all relevant patient information, tests required and any special requirements for those tests
Ensure correct identity of patients and the labelling of their samples and instruct on corrective methods for patients to seek assistance if or when discrepancies occur
Be competent with computer system and understand how to handle patient data; ensuring information is accurate and secure
Be able to summon assistance in the event of an adverse reaction or fainting episode during phlebotomy session
Complete relevant documentation of the intervention on EMIS
Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
IM injections
Administer flu vaccinations and other vaccines if appropriately trained
Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
Monitoring stock control
Other administrative and clinical duties that might be required from time to time
Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
Ensure fridges are monitored and cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Alderley Edge Medical Practice is based in Alderley Edge Medical Centre at the Festival Hall. The practice looks after over 8,500 patients. The surgery offers excellent facilities for both patients and staff in a purpose built modern building in the heart of Alderley Edge. Clinical services are provided by teams of doctors, practice nurses and health care assistants. The practice is administered by a team of support staff.
