      The Role

      We’re looking for a creative and connected Head of Communications for 12 months parental cover. You will join our award-winning in-house eBay UK Communications department to lead a team of dedicated PR professionals and agency partners to drive proactive storytelling and campaign development that will generate lots of buzz across key cultural moments and our enthusiast categories. You will also sit on the eBay UK management team, where you will play a role in shaping and influencing the UK business.

      You will partner with cross-functional collaborators across our matrixed organisation to create and drive strategies for all regional initiatives and category priorities, focusing and completing earned channels. This high visibility role is crucial to eBay's success and involves working closely with partners across Brand, Social, Global VPs, Category Trading, Customer Insights, Product, Design & Selling organisations. Given the multi-dimensional nature of the role, this leader should possess an obsession for the customer and a combination of skills across business strategy, partner success and collaboration.

      About the team

      This role reports to the Senior Director of Communications and is part of the eBay Global Communications team. You will work as part of several cross-functional teams, especially closely with our brand, social and trading teams, and agency partners to deliver on earned media outcomes.

      The Responsibilities

      • Lead the communications strategy and budget and drive storytelling campaigns across a number of categories to continue to drive earned buzz and brand relevance for eBay - you will be responsible for developing highly integrated PR programmes which support eBay’s business objectives and trading verticals
      • Coach and develop talent across the team, providing comms counsel, building culture, setting goals, establishing standards, and achieving outcomes.
      • Be part of cross-functional working groups for category-specific go to market plans and deliver critical communications counsel to senior internal partners
      • Significantly elevate credentials in Ecommerce, Circular Economy and Sustainability
      • Works on problems that may have significant impact on business, success and/or address challenges that address future business challenges. Contributes and generates new ideas to support the overall area or business.

      • Be a thought-leader with finger on the pulse on the latest creative ways demonstrating social and influencers to reach our customers within an earned environment - be willing to challenge, test and learn
      • Manage multiple work-streams and agency teams
      • Develop and/or review media materials and foster strong media relationships

      Key skills/experience required:

      • Proven experience at leadership level working on recognised consumer brands in a fast-paced, PR environment, either agency or in-house (marketplace, lifestyle or retail experience preferred)
      • We’re looking for someone who is a nimble and creative storyteller, has a penchant for cross-team collaboration, a proactive and energetic posture, impeccable judgement and writing capabilities, acts with a sense of urgency and has the ability to weave seamlessly between fun consumer subject matters through to making sustainability topics easy for customers to understand
      • Understanding of the UK media landscape and established relationships - a natural flair for news and social trends coupled with excellent news and editorial judgement and an in-depth understanding of how the media operates
      • Ability to synthesise customer context, feasibility studies, data and financial implications into recommendations for comms strategy.
      • Validated ability to develop strategies, translate them into initiatives and supervise successful delivery.
      • Experienced in briefing senior spokespeople, drafting media q&as, statements and releases
      • Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. Capable of influence at all levels - able to build strong relationships across wide range of partners
      • Great teammate, Self starter with a drive for being proactive, focused and results driven, quick, confident, yet considered decision-making
      • Demonstrated leadership experience driving complex, cross-functional initiatives.
      • Ability to juggle, prioritise and meet deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.
