      JOB TITLE: Head of Consumer Media Communications

      LOCATION(S): London, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Halifax, Edinburgh

      HOURS: Full-time

      SALARY - £118,000 to £150,000

      WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

      This is a fantastic opportunity to join us as the Head of Consumer Media Communications in our Group Corporate Affairs team. You'll work proactively with our consumer businesses (Consumer Banking and Insurance, Pensions & Investments), to support the development, implementation and management of consumer media relations as a key part of our external communications strategy.


      About the Opportunity:

      You'll report directly to the External Relations Director and jointly lead a team of media relations Senior Managers and Managers. Your focus will be on crafting and delivering proactive, innovative, integrated and creative communications plans and campaigns, working hand in hand with the channel teams across Group Corporate Affairs (GCA). You'll drive forwards our consumer PR strategy, using effective storytelling to enhance reputation and status and build pride in the Group.


      What you'll be doing:

      • Deliver compelling stories and campaigns that bring to life our products and services, and support for customers, in a way which evidences and underpins our strategy
      • Communicate effectively on live issues to promote and protect our reputation.
      • Confidently engage with national, broadcast regional media, general consumer media and key trade titles
      • Hold and develop relationships with key media contacts / editors / writers across multiple business sectors.
      • Provide intelligence and insight on the media landscape and capitalise on opportunities, based on relationships and a deep understanding of the factors shaping key media thinking
      • Use your expertise and insight to make the right decisions, providing strategic media counsel and guidance to GCA and senior executives in our consumer businesses and teams
      • Lead proactive and critical media initiatives, working closely with partners in the business as well as across GCA to build and implement clear, compelling and integrated communication plans

      What we'll need from you:

      This role is for you if you're a highly experienced media relations communicator with expertise in handling the fast-paced pressures of managing reactive consumer situations strategically and potentially critical issues management too.

      • Excellent relationships with key journalists across consumer affairs, personal finance and money sections, major trade titles
      • A strong understanding of consumer affairs, retail banking, financial services and the topics that matter to our colleagues, customers and the media
      • Outstanding media relations skills including excellent oral and written skills, and a proven ability to think strategically
      • An expert communicator and collaborator, developing and delivering communications strategies and content that drives impactful and targeted coverage
      • Consistent track record and proven experience of delivering proactive and reactive media campaigns to key media, using expertise across a range of channels
      • Creative problem solver, with ability to anticipate media opportunities and issues, and provide guidance on the appropriate positioning
      • An in-depth understanding of media relations and corporate affairs, using deep knowledge and experience to decide and prioritise the key messages which drive business outcomes.
      • A great people leader, leading change and continuously improving the effectiveness of a team, including through effective coaching, mentoring and investing in your own personal development
