Job Description

- Experienced risk, distribution, underwriting, pricing, or finance professional who is driven, curious, commercially minded and ready for a challenge in supporting insurance risk in the UK’s biggest General Insurance company. Familiarity with some of the lines of business written by AIL across personal lines and especially commercial lines is required alongside a knowledge of financial and conduct processes.
- Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written), analytically minded yet with ability to articulate difficult and complex issues precisely and concisely to senior stakeholders and decision makers. Experience of the London Market would be advantageous
- Leadership skills key to continually develop a high performing team to support Aviva’s strategy and ongoing growth
- Critical thinker with proven ability to review and appropriately challenge material business decisions, taking ownership of issues and building collaborative relationships across the three lines of defence
- Ability to ‘join the dots’, spotting emerging trends and potential risks and opportunities to the business with clear articulation of the impact these might have on AIL’s key performance metrics and appetites
- London salary circa £125,000, National salary circa £110,000, (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
- Bonus opportunity – 25% of annual salary Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.

Head of Insurance Risk
London Salary Circa £125,000
National Salary Circa £110,000

This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join a dynamic, agile and visible team in a key leadership position, driving and influencing the appropriate understanding and management of insurance risks and opportunities in real time across the Aviva Insurance Limited’s (AIL) UK General Insurance entity. They will also play a key role in partnering AIL’s Commercial and Distribution units to assist them in ensuring their decision-making is appropriately risk aware.
A bit about the job:
You will provide key thought leadership to identify, measure, oversee and partner the business on its insurance risks and opportunities during the decision-making process. This will include the leadership and development of a small team of insurance risk experts providing services to Risk Business Partners and the CRO. You will lead on the second line review of insurance risk management at AIL, ensuring alignment with and our risk preferences and broader risk appetite framework; reviewing, challenging and providing opinions on the design of business plans, trading and underwriting strategies, distribution deals/M&A, control frameworks and their execution; author key risk reports as required; support the CRO in meeting regulatory requests; ensuring the continuing effectiveness of the Risk Management Framework across underwriting and trading teams; and targeted deep dives on emerging risk themes. You will also provide Risk partnership to AIL’s SME and Distribution units to support them in ensuring their decision-making is appropriately risk aware.
