      Department Description

      Legal Project Management (LPM) is a global team dedicated to helping our lawyers deliver matters efficiently. We aspire to have our LPMs spend a significant amount of their time working in tandem with our lawyers and clients to coordinate the delivery of matters from beginning to end. In addition, our LPMs are responsible for developing, maintaining, rolling out and supporting the infrastructure (including best practice, template and systems) that is necessary for our lawyers to apply LPM techniques on matters that do not benefit from an allocated LPM.

      Role Overview

      The Head of Legal Project Management has overall responsibility for championing and building out the firm’s LPM capability globally. They will work closely with the Lead LPM in each of our practice groups as well as key partner stakeholders and others across Finance and the wider Business Services team to develop and implement plans to achieve our vision for LPM and their success will be measured by the impact these activities have on the client experience as well as on our internal metrics.

      The role of Head of Legal Project Management is a global position with team members located in offices around the world and will be based in one of our major office locations.

      Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

      • Develop, manage and continually improve the firm’s LPM program, working in collaboration with our lawyers and other key stakeholders.
      • Build engagement with partners and lawyers to promote the virtues, benefits and principles of LPM across the firm.
      • Develop, document and operationalize a common but flexible and agile LPM methodology, supported, as required, by templates and tools, which will be utilized by both LPMs and lawyers.
      • Actively participate and present the firm’s LPM processes and improvements through practice group meetings, partner meetings and other formal and informal settings.
      • Work with the Lead LPMs in our practice groups to manage the day-to-day global operations of the team to ensure high quality service and support is provided to their designated practice groups or focus areas.
      • Provide coaching, training and development to members of the LPM team.
      • Work with Marketing and Business Development to develop language for RFPs and respond to specific client requests for information regarding the firm’s LPM services as well as participate in meetings with clients and potential clients to describe the firm’s LPM program.
      • Collaborate with the wider Business Services team to build and support the LPM team’s relationship with various Business Services teams, including: Operations, Knowledge, Legal Tech, Marketing and Business Development and Technology.
      • Work in collaboration with those teams to drive the adoption of available tools for budget creation and tracking and matter financial analysis, as well as other technologies to support improved matter delivery, and identify needed enhancements.
      • Proactively track and measure the performance of the LPM team in delivery of its initiatives, communicating successes through appropriate internal and external communications channels.
      • Remain current on LPM techniques, best practices and supporting tools and technologies through internet research, conference attendance, peer networking, etc.

      Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

      Person Specification

      Qualifications & Training

      • Master's degree or law degree preferred.
      • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and adept at learning new technologies.

      Knowledge & Experience

      • Extensive project management experience in a senior level/managerial capacity, preferably in a large law firm or professional services firm.
      • Deep knowledge of law firm management metrics, and how day-to-day legal practice interacts with those metrics.
      • Advanced knowledge of agile project management, six sigma and other process improvement tools.
