This area has around 4000 colleagues covering customer operations, customer development, data, ops resilience, outsourcing and transformation teams.
This role is available because we have been working with our Head of People team on developing careers. As a result, we are moving some of our team around to build breadth and experience. This means that we have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the UK & Ireland Life (UK&IL) People team.
The successful candidate will report into our People Director for UK&IL, partner with the UKL COO and participate as an active member of the senior leadership team. You will also be a member of the wider Head of People community, all who people partner with senior leaders across Aviva.
This role can be based in any of our key locations across the UK – Glasgow, York, Sheffield, Bristol, Leatherhead, Eastleigh, Norwich, London. There will be a need to travel to other sites/locations as required for the role and to ensure that we always have a strong connection with our leaders and teams serving customers.
A bit about the role
Our Heads of People are true strategic partners, focused on commercial business outcomes and delivery of people interventions to drive performance, growth, and customer focus. The individual appointed to this role will be a trusted advisor, providing strategic counsel and guidance to the UKL COO and senior leadership team on people and culture. They will create the people strategy and plan to ensure that the UKL COO and Transformation business have the capability required to deliver both current and future business priorities, aligned to Aviva People Strategy. This includes pulling the right organisation development levers to support delivery of organisation change and key strategic programmes.
The Head of People will lead on Culture, Talent, Leadership, Learning, Organisation Design and Development and ultimately is responsible for building the workforce of the future for their business area. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a key focus of the role, ensuring that we have a focus on inclusive talent management, robust, diverse succession plans and that we continue to deliver on our commitment to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive organisation where all our colleagues can thrive.
Our people function operating model includes shared service and centres of expertise areas. We are also investing in new technology to support our leaders and improve self-services for all our colleagues. While this role does not have direct line management responsibility, leadership of others is expected to enable delivery of the people strategy and plan. Engaging and collaborating to deliver through others is an essential part of the role, including colleagues in centres of expertise and shared service areas.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
We have a privileged view of the business, working together closely with our senior leaders to deliver great results for our business and our people. Exceptional stakeholder management, an ability to positively influence others and strong communication skills are required at all levels of the organisation. You will need to be self-motivated, comfortable with ambiguity, adapting to ever changing demands, and with strong planning and organisation skills to ensure effective delivery of priorities in line with business needs. It is important to be passionate about what we do, resilient, collaborative, and proactive with a drive to change things for the better and make a real difference.
