      Zurich North America is currently looking for a Head of Professional Liability & Cyber leader to lead our Professional Liability and Cyber team. This role reports to the Head of Financial Lines and our preference is for the individual to be based in our New York, NY or Schaumburg, IL office with business travel expected.

      This is a critical role that requires oversight of the Professional Liability and Cyber strategic underwriting practices nationally. This role requires strong portfolio management, strategy and execution experience and will work across all business areas to include National Accounts, Middle Market and E&S. We are looking for this leader to utilize their expertise to manage, design and drive diverse multidimensional strategies for our complex book of Professional Liability and Cyber lines of business. This team underwrites Professional Liability, Cyber, Employed Lawyers' Liability and Core markets include, Healthcare, Technology, and Retail for Security & Privacy Products, Business consultants for Miscellaneous E&O and a very broad appetite for Employed Lawyers' Liability.

      This position will also be responsible for driving and cultivating broker relationships while managing and developing a team of underwriting managers and underwriters. This role requires an influential approach to business relationships and oversight of strategic underwriting practices and requires strong underwriting knowledge.

      Responsibilities Include:

      • Establishing key performance targets and financial budgets for underwriting unit in order to optimize business performance in line with set objectives.
      • Develop processes and review policies relevant to underwriting to ensure they are in line with strategic business objectives.
      • Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.
      • Participate in leadership team meetings of assigned area to provide specialist guidance and enable the implementation of policies, projects and change initiatives to produce profitable results.
      • Contribute to the business strategy to align underwriting strategy with wider business goals.
      • Participate in the community of global/regional proposition development practitioners in underwriting to share best practice and continue to meet customer´s needs.
      • Oversee development plans for underwriters to ensure the capability exists to drive business results.
      • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.
      • Recommend and implement action plans after reviewing agency books of business and profit/growth results and trends.
      • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
      • Assure development and implementation of policy, procedures and standards.

      Basic Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance Industry
        AND
      • 2 or more years of management or leadership experience
      • Professional Liability and Cyber underwriting experience


      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Advanced and in-depth underwriting knowledge and practice of Professional Liability and Cyber lines of business
      • Previous experience running a complex business unit with P&L responsibility and a proven track record of growing and retaining a large book of business
      • Excellent managerial team building and organizational skills
      • Strong presentation skills and executive presence with the ability to interact with the C-Suite
      • Existing relationships with our key trading partners on a regional and national basis.
      • Experience collaborating with key partners in actuary, claims, finance, operations, technical underwriting and distribution and regional management
      • Superior skills in relationship building, active listening and win-win negotiating
      • Ability to manage vision and purpose, lead the organization through innovative and creative thinking


      Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. For additional information about our Total Rewards, click here . Other rewards may include short term incentive bonuses and merit increases. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The starting salary range for this position is $211,600 - $370,300.
