Role Title: Head of Solution Architecture
Location: Knutsford
What will you be doing
· You will be the Lead Architect within a business area that has true customer and colleague impacts. You will build and lead a practice driving multi year solutions to drive digitisation of the Life Moments journeys.
· You will create an architectural vision in keeping with the business providing a technical solution for customer and colleagues. In owning the technical solution, you will provide an end to end assurance that satisfies business needs.
· You will bring diverse experiences and a change mind-set to drive quality technical outcomes
· You will own the architectural future of multiple technology platforms. Being the platform custodian, you will ensure that any developments align to the overall Barclays UK technology strategy.
· Champion our workforce strategy as we look to continue to recruit world class architecture capability across our strategic campus locations (across the UK and India).
· Leverage group-wide capabilities, technologies, patterns and practices. Creating capacity for the business by delivering with maximum efficiency.
Person Specification
· Technologist role model – retention and attractor of top technology talent
· Ability to lead solutions in depth at all levels including architecture, interface specification, code structure, network protocols, operations and troubleshooting
· Demonstrable experience of keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies
· Strong analytical and problem solving skills
· Excellent written and verbal reasoning and communication skills
· Operate with a sense of purpose whilst displaying high levels of empathy and professionalism, with ability to work in and lead teams
· Action-focused, results-oriented and customer-obsessed
· Freely shares information and experiences, and seeks knowledge from others
· Able to demonstrate experience in driving a long term vision whilst continuously delivering value
What we’re looking for
· Experience of leading and managing technical teams (solution architects, solution designers, etc.)
· Significant experience integrating disparate systems and exploiting effective APIs and most appropriate technologies
· Strong experience of Agile and DevOps principles, tools and practices
· Experience with automation and cloud technologies
· Strong analytical skills and proven ability to simplify and clearly communicate complex analytical outcomes, linkages and messages to both technical and non-technical audiences
· A broad and deep knowledge of technologies (including API, Cloud, Core banking, Lending technologies) that are used by financial service providers.
· Experience of working in a highly regulated environment.
· Experience in working on environments adopting agile methodologies
· Qualified and/or experiences in architectural standards/methodologies/techniques
Skills that will help you in your role
· The role holder will have strong people management and leadership skills and have had specific experience working in a matrix management model where influencing, challenging and negotiating skills have been highly leveraged
· The role holder will have proven ability to effectively build capability in virtual teams with the ability to negotiate in a sphere of influence at a senior level
· Provide clear and effective leadership, in line with Barclays values, in defining the strategy and shaping it into an executable plan across the business and functions
· Agree appropriately stretching performance and development objectives for all direct reports, providing regular feedback, and coaching to ensure their maximum potential is achieved
Decision-making and Problem Solving
· Responsible for making priority decisions about the scope of deliverables when faced with technical constraints
· Data-driven approach to root cause analysis and proactively understanding what gets in the way and unblocking
· The role holder will be required to make swift, well-reasoned decisions
· Experienced in acting as the design authority for a mutli year program of work
· Experienced in working with the design authority architecture sign-off for component deliverables
· Able to estimate budgets for small to medium and projects;
· Can identify high-impact, sensitive situations or issues and escalate appropriately;
· Ensures governance, risk and control procedures are followed.
