We help the world run better

At SAP, we enable you to bring out your best. Our company culture is focused on collaboration and a shared passion to help the world run better. How? We focus every day on building the foundation for tomorrow and creating a workplace that embraces differences, values flexibility, and is aligned to our purpose-driven and future-focused work. We offer a highly collaborative, caring team environment with a strong focus on learning and development, recognition for your individual contributions, and a variety of benefit options for you to choose from.

      What you'll do

The Office of the CTO serves as the nexus between the Chief Technology Officer's strategic vision and objectives, and its practical day-to-day implementation together with SAP's technology, application, infrastructure, operations, and process teams, amongst others. This unit plays a crucial role in aligning priorities and orchestrating technology strategy across SAP, ensuring that our vision and progress aligns with customer expectations, competitive landscape and financial ambitions.

Reporting directly to the CTO and Extended Executive Board member Philipp Herzig, the Head of the Office of the CTO (m/f/d) plays a critical role at SAP. This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, business acumen, program management and leadership skills. The individual in this role will also represent Philipp Herzig in internal and external speaking engagements.

      Key Responsibilities:

      1. Technology strategy & advocacy: Define SAP’s technology strategy, drawing on outside-in analysis, the CTO’s vision and the challenges of the Solution Area CTOs. This involves setting clear objectives, overseeing the technology landscape evolution at SAP, and ensuring that the technology guidance meets our customers’ and SAP’s long-term needs. Ensure prioritization and articulation of the technology strategy in business value to our customers and SAP. Represent the CTO’s technological vision both internally and externally. This involves articulating SAP’s technology strategy to stakeholders, including employees, board members, and external partners, and ensuring alignment across various functions.
      2. CTO circle: Host SAP’s CTO Circle, comprised of all Solution Area CTOs, SAP’s central forum for defining and executing SAP’s technology strategy and North Star Architecture. Ensure the alignment of corporate direction and translation to Solution Area CTO’s local roadmaps in a collaborative process, enabling bi-directional feedback and communication. Drive measurable progress toward the North Star Architecture.
      3. Architecture & Development Excellence: Build a team of technology professionals, including architects, engineers, project managers, and other specialists. Oversee the development of the technology team’s capabilities, promoting a culture of innovation, assertive execution, and continuous learning. Mentor and develop talent within the Office of the CTO and beyond, to build a strong pipeline of future technology leaders. Develop training content for key technology roles within SAP, e.g. the development architect and expert curriculum. In co-operation with SAP’s Corporate Development / M&A unit, provide technical due diligence and evaluate the technology assets of potential acquisition targets.
      4. Open Source Program Office: The SAP Open Source Program Office (OSPO) is the central hub for all Open Source and InnerSource-related topics at SAP. Enable development teams to consume and contribute to open source software in a compliant, secure, and frictionless way. By streamlining processes, guidelines, and tools, enhance developer experience, boost development efficiency, and reduce operational barriers. The OSPO also plays a key role in driving innovation and co-innovation — both within SAP and in collaboration with external communities — by fostering a culture of openness, transparency, and shared development.
      5. Stakeholder engagement and teamwork: Engage with other senior leaders, key stakeholders, and be connected to the colleagues executing daily, to ensure there is a clear understanding and support for the technological direction. Build bridges, but also be assertive when it comes to implementation of identified measures.

      What you bring

This role is instrumental in bridging the gap between high-level strategic planning and actual execution and tangible benefits for SAP’s customers, employees, and SAP itself. It demands visionary leadership, deep technical expertise, and excellent management capabilities. The effectiveness of this role significantly impacts SAP's overall ability to compete on a global scale.

      • Technology leadership: Senior Executive with over 15 years of experience in technology sector, with a proven track record of leading large-scale technology initiatives across architecture, development, and/or project teams.
      • Technology & enterprise application expertise: Deep understanding of technology trends, enterprise application landscapes, state-of-the-art enterprise architecture, and development processes. Familiarity with SAP's product portfolio is a strong asset.
      • Strategic thinking & business acumen: Ability to define, articulate and implement technology strategy, derived from how technology can drive business value for SAP’s customers and SAP itself.
      • Execution: Demonstrated experience in managing complex programs and driving measurable progress against strategic objectives. Strong ability to influence senior leaders and key stakeholders to ensure aligned execution.
      • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and to drive alignment across various functions and complex stakeholder landscapes.
      • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively represent the CTO's vision internally and externally, and to engage the relevant communities inside /outside SAP as well as stakeholders at all levels.
      • Talent Development: Proven track record in developing talent and building a pipeline of future technology leaders.
