  Our technology strategy is focused on our digital foundational programs. We are implementing a modern data platform based on the latest cloud technology, moving all our infrastructure applications to the cloud, and upgrading our front office architecture. On top of this foundation, we apply the latest technology -including AI- to drive our business forward and stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving asset management industry.

  Key part of the role is ensuring reliable and performant existing IT services, while at the same time managing the transition to new technology and capabilities. For these IT services, Robeco makes use of different types of outsourcing, including external data centers and several SaaS and PaaS cloud solutions. In the highly regulated financial services industry, expectations of clients, regulators and other stakeholders related to reliability, security and resilience are increasing.

  Position & Requirements

  The Head of Technology at Robeco is a key leadership role, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This position plays a crucial role in aligning our technology strategy with the company’s business goals in the context of a mid-sized global asset manager. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, an execution mindset and a passion for staying up to date with the latest technologies and trends in asset management.

  You are a member of the COO Management team, together with the head of Operations.

  You have budget responsibility of 50+ million and a headcount of 200+. As the Head of Technology, you have your own management team which consists of three Value Stream Managers and an IT Portfolio Manager. The Value Stream Managers are responsible for both providing reliable day-to-day IT services, and for delivering IT change projects. The IT Portfolio Manager is responsible for identifying and monitoring key dependencies, and for providing consolidated reporting on IT project portfolio status, progress, financials and other insights.

  Key responsibilities

  • Build a strong, coherent, and aligned management team.
  • Stay current with the latest data and technology trends in asset management and drive innovation. Act as sparring partner for Executive Committee and MT COO, advise on the Robeco Technology strategy, and oversee its execution.
  • Oversee the process of gathering business requirements in the different value streams to determine the technology needs of the organization. Execute and deliver these technology needs through empowered value stream managers.
  • Ensure a stable, reliable & resilient, regulatory compliant IT service landscape on which both clients and internal stakeholders can rely.
  • Boost the Technology department to the next level in Agile/DevOps. Ensure that the workforce will have the required future capabilities.
  • Manage technology budget with a cost-efficiency mindset.
  • Manages risks in our technology landscape within our risk appetite.
  • Collaborate with Global Procurement in building relationships with the top-tier vendors and in establishing cost-efficient contracts
  • Driving value from technology and speed of delivery is important

  Requirements

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus.
  • Familiar with the latest data and technology trends in Financial Services
  • Relevant experience with Agile and DevOps software development frameworks
  • At least 15 years of experience in Technology services and at least 5 years of experience as a Head of Technology, IT Director or similar leadership role.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills. Able to empower the members of the Technology management team within the boundaries of senior management priorities and the Robeco leadership priorities.
  • Excellent understanding of business and technology trends in asset management, including cloud, data technology and architectures, AI/ML and alternative data. Able to translate these insights into concrete vision, plans and project execution.
  • Strategic thinking and strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Firsthand experience with complex change management, including Agile/DevOps and strategic workforce planning.
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities: able to balance stakeholder needs and technology constraints/realism.
  • Outstanding communication and people skills.
  • Fluent in English, verbal and in writing.

  The role requires 3 days a week (minimum) at the head office in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The client is very open to someone of calibre from London, or other continental European or other locations.
