      Job summary

      Due to retirement of a long standing member of staff we are seeking a new colleague to join our nursing team.

      The successful candidate will be providing support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to be entitled patient population.

      Main duties of the job

      The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

      Job responsibilities

      Job Title - Healthcare Assistant

      Line Manager - Nurse Manager

      Hours per week - 24

      Job Summary

      The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

      a. Undertake NHS Health Checks

      b. To carry out step 1 Diabetic checks and Step 1 hypertension checks

      c. To visit housebound patients to carry out Step 1 Diabetic checks and hypertension checks

      d. Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

      e. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, then recording findings accurately

      f. Facilitate home BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

      g. To monitor B/p in clinic and act in accordance with findings

      h. Carry out BMI checks as directed

      i. Act as a chaperone as required

      j. Undertake venepuncture

      k. When trained, administer flu vaccinations/Vit B12 injections , Shingles and Pneumonia immunisations

      l. Carry out ECGs as requested and report accordingly

      m. Ensure specimens are tested, recorded and ready for onward transportation

      n. Provide support during minor operations as required

      o. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

      p. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

      q. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy and disposed of accordingly

      r. To follow correct clinical policy/procedure to use correct PPE equipment for correct procedure
