      RESPONSIBLE TO: Practice Nurses

      This is a dual location role at Weavers Medical, 121 Lower Street, Kettering, NN16 8DN and Mawsley Medical, School Road, Mawsley, Northamptonshire, NN14 1SN

      JOB SUMMARY

      To be a member of the practice based nursing and clerical team. You will provide high quality care to the practice population. You will be supervised by members of the nursing, medical and management teams, at all times working to your job description and within your capabilities.

      Main duties of the job

      Clinical Duties

      The post holder will:

      2.1 Undertake routine blood pressure checks and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, for patients with appointments.

      2.2 Undertake routine urine checks for patients as requested from time to time.

      2.3 Undertake Phlebotomy for patients with appointments.

      2.4 After training and following prescribed procedure and dressings by Practice Nurses, undertake routine regular dressings for patients for either Acticoat or four layer dressings.

      2.5 After training, undertake ECGs for patients referred by GPs.

      2.6 Assists in clinic sessions as directed by members of the Nursing and medical teams ensuring that all equipment is clean and sterilised following clinic sessions.

      2.7 Acts as chaperone for GPs when requested.

      2.8 Reports all matters relating to patient care changes in condition/circumstances to a relevant member of the Nursing team as a matter of priority and ensure that medical records are updated accordingly.

      2.9 After training and following prescribed procedure, administering of B12 injections

      2.10 After training and following prescribed procedure, administering of Flu Vaccinations

      Weavers Medical serves a patient population of 20,000 patients. The practice is run from town centre, purpose built premises.

      Mawsley Surgery serves a patient population of 5,000 patients. The practice is run from a village location, purpose built premises

      The practices have a team of 23 GPs and a nursing/HCA team of 12.

      3.Treatment room supplies and equipment

      The post holder will:

      3.1 Ensures that all clinical rooms and treatment rooms are at all times kept in a clean and orderly manner and that relevant equipment is ready for use by the Nursing and medical teams.

      3.2 Ensure all Infection Control measures are met and report any problems to the Practice Manager.

      3.3 In conjunction with the other HCA, ensure all fridge temperatures are checked on a daily basis and that drugs are within their expiry dates and used in correct sequence.

      4. Administrative and professional responsibilities

      The post holder will:

      4.1 Act at all times with regard to the confidentiality and sensitivity of issues to do with patients, their care and treatment.

      4.2 Ensure complete and accurate records of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients computerised medical records

      4.3 Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation and records associated with patient health care.

      4.4 Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.

      4.5 Attend and participate in practice meetings as appropriate.

      4.6 Have knowledge and act at all times within the boundaries of health and safety and data protection acts.

      5. Health and Safety & Fire Safety

      The post holder will:

      5.1 Assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy.

      5.2 Adhere to the Prospect House Fire Strategy.
