  Job summary

  The Oasis Unit is a ten bedded medical ward for patients who require hospital treatment, and who also have dementia or a cognitive impairment. The ward is staffed by two registered nurses and two Health Care Assistants.

  All posts are rotational and you will be required to work days/ nights/ weekends and Bank Holidays.

  Health Care Assistant duties will be to support the registered nurse in all aspects of caring for patients on the unit.

  Main duties of the job

  • To support patients with all aspects of daily living, including washing, dressing and toileting.
  • Assisting patients with meaningful activities as part of distraction and reminiscence therapy.
  • Supporting patients with mobility, including moving and handling and use of equipment.
  • Maintaining positional changes and skin integrity.
  • Helping with eating and drinking, completing fluid balance and food diaries, social activities, emotional and wellbeing support.
  • Completing safety checks on equipment, cleaning equipment.
  • General house keeping and maintaining a clean and safe ward environment.
  • Completing relevant paperwork to a high standard.
  • You will work as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team including Nursing staff, Doctors, activities co-ordinator, physio and OT. You will be required to follow care plans and keep records of evaluations/outcomes throughout your shift.
