      Job summary

      Maybush Medical Centre is looking to recruit anexperienced health care assistant (HCA) to join our friendly practice team

      We are a successful practice with the highest standards of care and almost 10,000 patients. We are actively seeking to increase our list size

      Main duties of the job

      We are looking for a dedicated and friendly HCA who will fit into our high performing team.

      We are ideally looking for 20 hours across 5 days. We can however be flexible for the right applicant. You will support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services. The HCA will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

      About us

      We are located just on the outskirts of Wakefield city centre, and have ample free parking on site and good local transport links.

      The practice operates from purpose-built premises. We are SystmOne site.

      Maybush is an accredited training practice for student nurses, GP's and medical students and offers opportunities to progress and develop, in both clinical and non-clinical capacities.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and recording findings accurately
      • Carry out annual reviews for chronic diseases e.g hypertension, diabetes, asthma etc
      • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring
      • Carry out ECGs
      • Carry out BMI checks and provide weight management advice
      • Administer Blood Tests
      • Carry out Spirometry tests
      • Intramuscular injections under PSD
      • Undertake wound care and carry out simple dressings
      • Removal of sutures
      • Undertake NHS Health Check
      • Processing of samples e.g. urine
      • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
      • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
      • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
      • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording including weekly data loggers
      • Medical equipment and vaccine ordering, stocking control and rotation
      • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations, coil fits and contraceptive implant fitting
      • Act as a chaperone as required
      • Participating in administrative tasks to support the practice in meeting QOF targets
