- Tertiary qualifications in health promotion, public health, social science (with a health promotion major), health education or related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience of health promotion theory and evidence-based application including needs analysis, project planning, implementation and evaluating health promotion initiatives (particularly relating to relevant issues for young people who are “at risk” or “marginalised”).
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of working with young people in community –based settings, particularly with diverse communities and demonstrated experience of the ability to advocate for their needs.
- Experience in establishing partnerships with relevant organisations and facilitating collaborative action, including relevance to social justice, harm minimisation and community development.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based community education projects, including experience in developing and facilitating group work.
- Demonstrated ability to write high level and quality reports and other written communication for a variety of audiences as well as high-level computer literacy.
- Demonstrated experience to work independently, as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team across multiple projects with the ability to apply effective interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Effective organisational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.

The Youth Health Education/Promotion officer (HEO/HPO) works within a multidisciplinary team and provides services for young people aged 12- 24 years. SWSLHD Youth Health services prioritises marginalised, homeless and at risk young people aged 12- 24 years.This position will facilitate engagement by providing services that are relevant and responsive to the health needs of the target group. This involves the provision of health education and health promotion activities, case management, support and group work.
The HEO/HPO forms part of the multidisciplinary team with Youth Health Service, underpinned by the NSW Youth Health Framework 2017-2024 and the SWSLHD Youth Health Model of Care.
The HEO/HPO will play an active role in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion projects utilising evidence based frameworks. These projects are diverse and include community based campaigns, consumer engagement, health information resource production, community education and capacity building.
