      E SSENTIAL D UTIES AND R ESPONSIBILITIES :

      S UPERVISORY R ESPONSIBILITIES :

      Effectively administers performance management system including: - developmental feedback - goal setting - assesses competency - progressive discipline Strong knowledge of and effective in administering hospital policies and procedures. Knowledgeable in ICD-9-CM and CPT coding classification systems. Responsible for overseeing the release of information processes to ensure HIPAA compliance. Acts as the Custodian of Medical Records. Oversees the prepping and scanning of medical records by HIM staff. Periodically reviews quality of scans performed by non-HIM staff to ensure scanning Responsible for merging of patient duplicates. Responsible for evaluating H.I.M. Operations as it relates to providing records for patients seen in satellite clinics. Responsible for sound management of human resources. Makes and implements decisions compatible with organizational goals. Maintains composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure. Supervises the following job classes: Health Information Management Technicians. Responsible for overseeing the job performances of the employees to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. Ensures that job performed is in conjunction with standards from Joint Commission, Medicare and Medicaid. Works with Department Director on special projects, as needed.

      E DUCATION AND / OR E XPERIENCE :

      Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. OR X Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory experience in an acute care health setting, preferably in Health Information Management and in a pediatric hospital setting.

      Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.

      Certificate from American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is required.

      Epic experience preferred in the areas of Release of Information and Deficiency Tracking.
