- Serve as co-staff liaison to the Payer Relations Subcommittee, which involves monitoring and summarizing private and public payer coverage policies, supporting outreach to payers regarding inappropriate denials or policy concerns, and assisting in the development of model policies and educational materials for payers.
- Serve as a support staff to the Code Utilization and Application Subcommittee (CUAC), assisting in the intake, tracking, and drafting of responses to coding inquiries from physicians, payers, and regulatory bodies.
- Assist in the semi-annual update of the ASTRO Radiation Oncology Coding Resource, including content review and coordination with internal teams, as well as ASTRO’s annual coding seminar.
- Monitor regulatory sources (e.g., CMS, OIG, MedPAC, Federal Register) for updates relevant to radiation oncology and summarize findings for internal and external use.
- Support staff and volunteer participation in health policy-related meetings, including preparation, logistics, and follow up.
- Work with ASTRO’s health policy and government relations teams and physician volunteers to advance ASTRO’s policy agenda.
- Assist in website maintenance, ensuring material is accurate and up to date.
- Draft and edit content for ASTRO publications (e.g., What’s Happening in Washington and ASTROgrams).
- Support other Health Policy related projects as assigned
- Degree and/or certification in health policy, public health, health administration, medical coding (e.g., AAPC or AHIMA), or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in health policy, medical coding, or healthcare administration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft professional correspondence and educational materials.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other common business applications.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with Medicare regulations and physician reimbursement.
- Experience working in a medical society or with a medical practice.
- Knowledge of CPT/RUC processes and payer policy development.
- A passion for researching, digging into information and problem solving.
- You enjoy making lists and checking off completed items.

ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, is looking for an individual with an interest in health policy to join our team that supports ASTRO’s advocacy efforts dealing with coding development and guidance, private insurers and Medicare coverage issues.
The Health Policy Coordinator supports ASTRO’s Health Policy team by coordinating activities related to radiation oncology coding, coverage/payer relations, and code development and valuation. This role is instrumental in managing the intake and tracking of coding inquiries and payer coverage issues, supporting the development of educational resources, coordinating events and other programing, and assisting with regulatory monitoring and Committee operations. The Coordinator will work closely with the Senior Health Policy Analyst and Director of Health Policy to ensure timely and accurate execution of ASTRO’s health policy initiatives.
NOTE: ASTRO offers a hybrid work environment. The position is based in Arlington, VA at ASTRO’s headquarters and eligible for telework up to 3x/week after an initial training period.
