      The purpose of this position is to serve as a Rare Cancer Program Manager, principal lead, subject matter expert, and advisor on the treatment of rare cancers in the VHA. The position is responsible for the development and oversight of all policies and National Oncology Program (NOP) activities supporting Rare Cancers under the guidance of the Executive Director of the NOP.

      To qualify for this Health Science Specialist GS-14 position, applicant(s) must meet both Selective Placement Factors, plus the Basic Education, plus the Specialized Experience requirements.       SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) - Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration.
      SPF for this position is: "Experience in the design and implementation of a precision oncology programs, or initiatives."
      AND
      BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

      PLUS
      SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Qualifying specialized experience includes provides objective cancer information from precision oncology and research to guide decision-making for administrative and programmatic aspects of agency operations and management; work with clinicians and/or researchers, to create programs and for the utilization of oncology clinical practice or research or for clinical decision support; serve as the primary liaison with oncology scientific groups/organizations; develop and implement level strategies and principles; experience dealing with sensitive and confidential health data.

      IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.       Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some travel is required. This position is virtual. No other special physical demands are required of this work. The work is typically performed in a virtual environment.
