This position is located in a VISN 1 Medical Center/ Healthcare System Research Service that conducts health services research projects and performs basic science research at the Veterans Health Administration, Boston, MA.Duties

NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 3 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4 years). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4-year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

Qualifications
This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to and essential for satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placements Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. The selective placement factor for this position is experience with research study management and/or coordination to be able to provide assistance to study team.
AND
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must possess a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting the above requirements, you must also meet one of the additional requirements as described below to qualify for this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the above requirement, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Review and verify research data ensuring appropriate data tracking, storage and security procedures are in place; Compile, prepare, and provide assistance in developing statistical data and special reports; Enter research data into computerized data sets per research protocol; Perform clinical assessments based on study protocol; Recruit and screen for research participants; Perform clinical assessments based on study protocol.
Superior Academic Achievement at the GS-7 level (Transcript Required): (SAA) at the baccalaureate level in the coursework detailed above is fully qualifying. Applicants who wish to apply under this provision must submit proof from their educational institution that they meet one of the criteria listed below. To qualify for SAA, applicants must have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in a curriculum that is qualifying (as described above) for the position to be filled and meet one of the following:
1. Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university or major subdivision.
2. A grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study.
3. A grade point average of "B+" (a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of one (1) full year of progressively higher-level graduate education with a major in a field appropriate to the work of this position to substitute for the one year of experience, is fully qualifying for the GS-7 (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED).

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required, i.e., standing, walking, bending and lifting of light items. Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office or research setting. Occasionally, work may be conducted at other offices (e.g., affiliated universities or the office of program participating in research project).
