      Healthcare Assistant (Bank Staff)

      An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the IPU team at St. Rocco's Hospice. We are looking to recruit Bank Healthcare Assistants for our In-Patient Unit, with an opportunity to work across all clinical departments, including the outreach services.

      The successful applicant should be an enthusiastic healthcare assistant who strives to deliver a high standard of quality care and is able to work flexibly as part of a multidisciplinary team.

      Please specify your availability to work bank shifts. Hours will be worked between Mon to Sun, including days, nights, evenings and weekends you will be notified by your line manager.Unsociable Hours Enhancement

      Monday to Friday from 8pm til 8am - £15.55p/h

      Saturday - £15.55p/h

      Sunday & Bank Holiday - £19.44 per hour

      REPORTS TO: Ward Manager/Senior Nurse

      JOB SUMMARY

      To assist members of the Nursing Team in providing the highest standard of physical, psychological, social and spiritual care for patients, their relatives and friends in accordance with all St Roccos policies, procedures and guidelines.

      KEY STRATEGIC RESPONSIBLILITES

      Performing all duties as delegated and supervised by a trained nurse.

      Assisting trained nurses in basic patient care. This care is prescribed by trained nurses in individual care plans.

      Minimising the risk of patients, staff and visitors acquiring a health care associated infection, to include:

      1. Observing universal infection control precautions.

      2. Hand hygiene.

      3. Safe handling and disposal of clinical waste.

      4. Housekeeping and cleaning regimes for all patient areas.

      5. Relevant training and access to infection control.

      6. Ensuring patients are not treated with contaminated medical devices.

      OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

      To be responsible for the standard of care given under the direction of a trained nurse.

      To assist with patients personal hygiene and to meet toilet care needs.

      To assist patients with mobility, lifting and turning.

      To assist in the distribution of drinks and meals and with feeding patients if necessary.

      To listen and talk with patients, relatives and friends and to report relevant information to trained staff.

      To assist patients with access to appropriate religious or spiritual support as required according to the Hospices guidelines.

      To maintain a respectful, non-judgmental and caring attitude toward all patients, their families and friends.

      To take reasonable care to avoid injury during the course of work and co-operate with the Hospice and others in meeting statutory regulations in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

      To report, as soon as practical, accidents and untoward incidents and to ensure that incident forms are completed.

      COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

      To communicate relevant information about patients to the ward team.

      To assist in providing a welcoming, friendly and professional environment where relatives may participate appropriately as partners within the caring team.

      To assist in the maintenance of harmonious working relationships within the ward team.
