      Job summary

      We are looking for a compassionate, experienced and dedicated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our team at Trumpington Street Medical Practice Cambridge. As a key member of our care team, you will work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, patient-centred care. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in patients' lives while developing valuable clinical experience in a supportive NHS environment.

      Main duties of the job

      1. Clinical Support:

        • Taking and recording vital signs

        • Performing phlebotomy

        • Carrying out ECGs

        • Assisting with wound care and dressing changes

        • Administering B12 injections (if qualified and under PSD)

      2. Health Promotion & Screening:

        • Conducting NHS Health Checks

        • Assisting in chronic disease reviews (e.g. diabetes, asthma checks)

        • Measuring height, weight, BMI, and urinalysis

        • Offering lifestyle advice (e.g. smoking cessation, diet, exercise)

      3. Administrative Duties:

        • Updating patient records (e.g. observations, procedures)

        • Preparing clinical rooms and maintaining infection control

        • Assisting with stock checks,equipment maintenance and ordering

        • Calling patients to remind them of appointments or gather pre-clinic information

      4. Patient Interaction:

        • Escorting or chaperoning patients during procedures

        • Supporting patients with mobility or anxiety

      Job responsibilities

      Job Summary

      The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) plays an essential role in supporting the clinical team in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care within the general practice setting. Working under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, the HCA assists with clinical duties, health promotion, and administrative tasks to support the smooth operation of the practice.

      Main Duties and Responsibilities:

      Clinical Duties:

      • Take and record vital signs: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate

      • Perform phlebotomy

      • Conduct ECGs and report findings to clinicians

      • Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and removal of sutures/clips

      • Perform urinalysis, measure height, weight, and BMI

      • Conduct NHS Health Checks and basic screening tests

      • Administer vaccinations/injections (B12), if trained and authorised

      • Chaperone patients during consultations or intimate examinations

      • Prepare and maintain clinical rooms and equipment following infection control policies

      Administrative Duties:

      • Accurately input clinical data and observations into patient records (e.g. SystmOne)

      • Support clinicians by preparing patients for procedures

      • Manage clinical stock levels and ensure appropriate supplies are available

      • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives

      • Assist with patient recall systems (e.g. for chronic disease reviews)

      • Provide basic lifestyle advice (e.g. smoking cessation, healthy eating)

      • Support patients with managing long-term conditions (under direction of clinicians)

      The successful candidate will be required to work across both sites.

      • Located less than 30 minutes away from premises.
      • Must be able to start work at 8.00am or conclude work at 6.00pm.

      • Experience of working in general practice as a HCA.
