Job Description

- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
- Support the practice nurse with the management of Chronic Disease clinics
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, calculating & recording average readings from DOCMAN & AccuRx, making appointments as needed
- Undertake Wound Care, Dressings and other clinical tasks as required
- Undertake Suture/Clips removal
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Undertake annual Patient Health Checks
- Act as a chaperone as required
- Undertake venepuncture
- Diabetes screening to include foot checks
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

- Reviewing communications in Docman and booking appropriate nursing appointments as needed (e.g. travel)
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Administer flu vaccinations
- Carry out COPD 6 testing when requested by a Nurse or GP
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Carry out Shingles, Pneumococcal and B12 injections
- Carry out NHS Health Checks
- Carry out Smoking Cessation clinics, liaise with and advise patients on stop-smoking medications
- Carry out learning disability health checks
- Act as Pre-Diabetes Lead, reviewing & filing test results, telephoning newly diagnosed and current patients
- Act as Alivecor Lead, coaching patients how to use the device and managing the loan / return of devices
- Provide support during minor operations as required

Job summary
We are looking to employ an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly clinical team. The post holder is responsible for assisting the clinical team, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective healthcare services to the whole practice population.
The successful candidate must work well under pressure with the ability to multi-task and work as an integral part of a well-established team. Excellent communication skills and telephone manner are essential, as well as being computer literate. The successful candidate will be a methodical worker with very close attention to detail, and understand the requirements of working with sensitive and confidential information.
Due to the nature of this position, employment is subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK, completion of a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure and two references.
This vacancy is for full or part time hours, between 30-37 hours per week, negotiable with the successful candidate. You will work over 5 days on a rolling am/pm shift rota, covering the surgery's core hours of 07:45 to 20:00. Starting salary is £11.00 per hour but can be higher if candidates have demonstrable, relevant experience. There can be an immediate start for the successful candidates.

New Pond Row Surgery is a forward-thinking NHS GP practice with 8,900 registered patients, working collaboratively within an efficient and enthusiastic Primary Care Network (PCN) alongside two other local surgeries, caring for 29,700 patients in our area.
We are a busy GP practice with a multi-skilled team that comprises of GPs, Nurses, Paramedics, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Social Prescribers, Care Coordinators and various other roles who are assisted by our excellent Reception and Administration staff.
