      Job summary

      We're looking for an experienced primary care healthcare assistant to join our growing clinical team and support with providing a range of clinical services under the direction of our Practice Nurses and Doctors.

      We require the below hours to be covered by either one candidate or potentially as a job share. Additional days/hours maybe available.

      • Monday 08:00-20:00
      • Tuesday 08:00-18:30
      • Friday 08:00-18:30

      Main duties of the job

      We are looking for a candidate with experience of working in primary care, preferably general practice, and with training/experience in:

      • Phlebotomy
      • Basic observations
      • ECGs
      • Injections (within HCA scope of practice)
      • Basic wound care
      • Annual health checks.

      Further training to enhanced skills is available but we are looking for a candidate with existing experience in these key areas.

      The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team and on their own initiative. They will be caring and compassionate, with a focus on patient experience and clinical safety.

      They will be willing and able to support the wider clinical team with a range of clinical administration duties throughout the week and will proactively seek continuous professional development.

      Quedgeley Medical Centre (QMC) is a family run GP practice in Quedgeley, a suburban town of Gloucester and located 3.5 miles southwest of the city centre. With approx. 7,000 patients, QMC is a growing practice with a team comprised of doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, administrative/secretarial staff, pharmacists, and others.

      • Phlebotomy
      • INR testing and monitoring
      • New patient health checks
      • NHS Health Checks
      • Annual health checks (e.g., for long-term condition review)
      • Basic observations (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature etc.)
      • ECGs
      • Injections (e.g., B12)
      • Restocking, ordering and maintaining clinical equipment
      • Assisting with minor surgical procedures
      • Chaperoning
      • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
      • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
      • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
      • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
      • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
      • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
      • Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
      • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
      • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
