      Job summary

      We have an opportunity for an individual with a passion to care, hardworking, fun and motivated to join our dynamic and well established team. Frederick Salmon North ward is a friendly, supportive and busy ward where patient needs are put first and where learning and development is our priority.

      You will be expected to use your own initiative and experience in ensuring patient's safety, confidentiality and dignity is maintained at all times through a holistic approach. You will be required to deliver direct care to patients and to assist nursing staff and other members of the MDT when required.

      The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will be required to liaise with staff, patients, relatives and other medical and non-medical staff at all times. IT skills are desirable although not mandatory but will be of own benefit for learning and development purposes.

      Main duties of the job

      • Participate in the reception of patients and relatives in the clinical area and to act courteously to all visitors
      • Provide reassurance and support to patients and carers/family
      • To assist patients with all activities of daily living they are unable to carry out for themselves
      • Monitor pressure area's and assist qualified staff in changing wound dressings.
      • To serve drinks and meals to patients and to give assistance to those patients requiring help.
      • Monitor patient intake including peg feeds and record on food charts.
      • Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
      • Report any concern regarding patient care
      • Escort patients who do not require constant qualified care.
      • To assist in bed making and the disposal of soiled linen.
      • To chaperone patients as necessary
      • To ensure infection control procedures are complied with at all times.
      • To maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and health service businesses in accordance with Trust Confidentiality Policy and the Data Protection Act
      • Work collaboratively with others in the ward to ensure that patient's needs are meet.
      • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative, self-motivated with the ability to prioritise care
      • To assist other clinical areas within the Trust if the clinical situation or staffing levels demand.
