That means we’re continually seeking diligent, determined performers who think outside the box to help us find better and more efficient ways to manufacture our vehicles What you’ll be able to do:

      · Monitor carburizing, carbonitriding, and induction hardening processes to ensure compliance specification requirements, WHTX-1, and WHTX-12 procedures.

      · Adjust heat treatment equipment to maintain part quality (metallurgy and distortion) requirements.

      · Responsible for changing-over the furnaces to different part families.

      · Heat Up / Cool Down and Nitrogen Suspend Furnaces for Production needs without jeopardizing safety or part quality.

      · Trained in Combustion Safety for all 400,000 BTU or greater (All equipment below the roof line). Responsible for ensuring that all Safety checks are preformed accurately on all equipment and maintain all documentation.

      · Maintain and ensure all Heat Treat Equipment and Gages are accurately maintained and calibrated: Dewpoint Analyzers, Hardness Testers, Pyrometer, Monometers, Tegams, etc.

      · Advise and teach personnel in various heat-treating techniques, and direct repair of malfunction equipment.

      · As the Lead Heat Treat Engineer for your shift, you will be the resident authority for Heat Treat and will be encouraged to own the production, and skill trades team in all Heat Treat Activities.

      · Guide the Skill Trades Team through troubleshooting of down heat Treat equipment and, in some cases, “hot furnaces, assisting the team in determining how to safely work on the equipment and how to quickly get it back up and running, minimizing the loss of production stock.

      · Control and disposition of off-standard stock.

      · Statistical correlation of heat treatment data.

      · Apply strong understanding of all incoming Gases, Mill Water Lines, City Water Lines, Oil Flow & Distribution, Fresh Air Supply and Exhaust Systems.

      · Employ a complete understanding of Fixture Alloys used in all furnaces with additional knowledge regarding approved designs, nickel costs, alloy types, amount used, amount of fall out and required IM costs/year.

      Metallurgical:

      · Conduct and maintain daily Metallurgical evaluations (microstructure analysis) stock running in all operating furnaces and induction hardeners, which will include cutting, mounting, polishing and etching of samples.

      · Broad knowledge and in-depth expertise in Rockwell surface hardness, micro hardness checks, microstructure evaluation, macro and microphotographs.

      · Metallurgical Properties – Complete knowledge of material properties and need for carburizing to establish the required wear resistance properties.

      · Knowledge of producing ring and pinions with minimal distortion by accurately orientating, quenching, and oil use (temp., oil type).

      · CO monitoring – Complete knowledge of what CO sources are formed by Carburizing, Combustion Systems and Generators.

      · Responsibility for maintenance, housekeeping, and ordering of supplies for the metallographic laboratory.

      Basic Qualifications:

      · Bachelor Degree in Engineering

      · 4+ years’ experience in manufacturing engineering environment

      · 4+ years working with heat treat furnaces and or induction power supply

      · 1+ years’ experience Microsoft Office software

      Preferred Qualifications:

      · Bachelor Degree in in Material Science or Metallurgy

      · Manufacturing Experience with Axle Hypoid Gear Cutting, Heat Treating, Grinding, and Lapping

      · Manufacturing Experience with: Lean Manufacturing (5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, Visual Factory, and Value Stream Mapping), DCP, PFMEA, PPAP, TQM, Kaizen, Work Instructions, Reaction Plans, Blueprint Reading, Tooling Experience, Statistics (Capability & Correlation Studies, Control Charts, Data Collecting, etc.), 6-Sigma DMAIC Projects, DOE, PJO (Periodic Job Observation) / Process Confirmation, Standardization (crafting, improving & following).

      · AutoCad, along with basic computer user knowledge.

      · Strong verbal & written communication, conflict resolution

      · Successful candidate should be able to demonstrate behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills
