      The Heavy Equipment Inspector (HEMI) Mechanic is responsible for the diagnostic, repairs and inspection of military/civilian light, medium and heavy wheeled equipment power generation, and ground support equipment. Works along with team members and sets the pace.


      Responsibilities

      This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

      MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

      • HEM Inspector Mechanic will direct the work of other mechanics and provide support to maintenance team to ensure satisfactory levels of customer service are maintained for internal and external customers.
      • Inspects, tests, and operates wheeled equipment (commercial and Military) to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
      • Uses automated Logistics Information System to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, maintains wheeled, construction and grounding systems.
      • Removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls components and accessories.
      • Disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards, and regulations.
      • Operates, cleans, inspects, and services wheeled equipment for maintenance purposes.
      • Practices good housekeeping, property accountability control, Foreign Object Damage prevention and safety at all times.
      • Additional responsibilities include working with a variety of repair and test equipment including welders, torches, pressure testers and electrical testers to name a few.
      • Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.
      • Job duties and responsibilities may change due to contractual requirements.

      MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

      • Extensive use of basic shop equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting devices.
      • Steel Toe shoes are required. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted.
      • Such PPE includes, but is not limited to: Face Mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices.
      • Periodic use of computer systems and multi-function devices (MFD).

      WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

      • Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition.
      • Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position.
      • Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat, and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
      • A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week). Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires.

      PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

      • Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squad for prolonged periods.
      • Must be able to pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds.
      • Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat, and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.

      Qualifications

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

      • High school diploma or equivalent.
      • At least three (3) to six (6) years of experience in wheeled equipment maintenance or an equivalent.
      • Must successfully pass a NACI background investigation.
      • Must have or able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
      • Must possess a valid State Driver’s License, Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
      • Must be able to successfully pass a pre- employment drug screening.
      • Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport.
      • Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Liberty Installation.

      SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

      • Must be proficient in servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing military and civilian wheeled power generation and ground support equipment.
      • Must be familiar with the use of electronic technical manuals.
      • Working knowledge of GCSS-Army preferred.
