Job Description

- Must understand and demonstrate farm Bio-Security requirements.
- Must understand and demonstrate correct animal handling techniques at all times.
- Must understand and demonstrate safe and efficient power washing techniques.
- Must understand and demonstrate the need for correct methods of medication handling and storage.
- Must understand and demonstrate correct methods of treating and vaccinating all animals of all ages.
- Must understand and demonstrate all aspects of processing piglets including castration.
- Must understand and demonstrate general housekeeping and sanitation skills.
- Must understand and demonstrate under direct supervision semen handling, heat checking, and artificial insemination techniques.
- Must understand and demonstrate correct methods of euthanasia of animals.
- Must understand and demonstrate correct methods of dead animal disposal.
- Must have the ability to withstand higher levels of noise, dust, animal dander, and odors associated with livestock on a daily basis.
- Must NOT own swine.
- Must be able to follow safe work practices.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Must be able to stand on concrete for up to 9 hours a day wearing rubber boots, stepping in and out of pens.
- Must be able to squat/kneel to the floor, grip small objects with ease and twist at least 45 degrees.
- Must be responsive to visible signs of animal discomfort.
Herdsperson I- Las Animas, Co. $16.00/hour
The work schedule for this position is 5 days on 2 days off, the days off rotate. Start time is 6:00 a.m. and end time is whenever the job is done for the day (varies).
