  Job Title: Custodian

  Reports to: School Administration Team

  Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED is required. Applicants should be able to work well in a school environment, perform assigned duties, and cooperate with others on the custodial staff. An extensive background check is performed if hired.

  Job Summary: Maintain school buildings in a state of operating excellence that supports the education program.

  Essential Duties:

  • Perform essential building care such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, de-waxing, and waxing floors; cleaning blinds, dry erase boards, window glass, light fixtures, walls, carpets, restrooms, and other spaces within a school plant
  • Sweep/vacuum classrooms daily and empty all waste containers daily
  • Scrub and disinfect bathroom floors daily or as needed
  • Scrub and disinfect the bathroom daily
  • Clean all sanitary fixtures daily
  • Visually inspect and perform necessary cleaning between each class period
  • Ensure all commodes are operable and place work orders as needed
  • Fill paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and toilet paper dispensers as needed
  • Remove graffiti from walls, stalls, and buildings
  • Clean all glass throughout the building on a regular basis
  • Clean baseboards, ceiling tiles, vents, and furniture as needed
  • Dust and clean blinds as needed
  • Clean computer screens and dust computer tables and related computer equipment on a regular basis
  • Clean corridors after school daily and during the day as needed
  • Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy
  • Work on the school premises during scheduled hours
  • Move furniture and equipment within buildings as required for various activities, as directed by the principal
  • Report immediately to the supervisor any damage to school property or needed repairs
  • Assume responsibility for determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off
  • Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment, and notify the supervisor of needed replacements in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
