      WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

      We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced high school educator to serve as Head Swimming Coach and classroom teacher at Palmview High School. The ideal candidate is passionate about education and aquatics, and is committed to leading a safe, structured, and competitive swimming program that emphasizes growth, teamwork, and academic achievement.

      The successful candidate will:

      • Provide effective, engaging instruction in a core secondary subject
      • Lead the Palmview High School swim program, overseeing training, competition, and athlete development

      Qualifications

      Education/ Certification

      • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (required)
      • Valid Texas teaching certificate in any secondary content area (required)
      • Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements (preferred for team transportation)
      • CPR/First Aid/AED certification and completion of UIL-required safety trainings (must be current or obtained prior to start of coaching duties)

      Experience:

      • Classroom teaching experience at the high school level
      • Previous swim coaching experience required; head coaching experience preferred
      • Demonstrated knowledge of swim training, stroke mechanics, meet management, and athlete development
      • Strong organizational and communication skills
      • Knowledge of UIL aquatics regulations and eligibility requirements
      • Commitment to La Joya ISD’s Coaching Expectations, Athletic Handbook, and Code of Ethics

      Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      Instructional – High School Teacher

      • Plan and implement rigorous, TEKS-aligned instruction using district-provided resources (e.g., DMAC)
      • Differentiate instruction to support all learners, including ELLs, special education, and at-risk students
      • Collaborate in PLCs and campus instructional teams to enhance student outcomes
      • Communicate with families and support teams to address academic needs
      • Integrate college, career, and military readiness (CCMR) skills into instruction

      Athletic – Head Swimming Coach

      • Develop and implement structured training plans for individual and team development in swimming
      • Oversee all aspects of the swim program, including practice sessions, meet preparation, and athlete safety
      • Coordinate team participation in meets and competitions, including entries, logistics, and travel
      • Monitor academic performance and eligibility through Skyward and teacher collaboration
      • Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and team managers
      • Promote the program at feeder schools and engage in community outreach to build interest and participation
      • Enforce La Joya ISD’s athletic policies, UIL regulations, and student-athlete code of conduct
      • Serve as a visible leader during practices, meets, and campus athletic events

      Other Duties

      • Perform additional duties as assigned by campus administration or athletic department
      • Adhere to all La Joya ISD board policies, procedures, and administrative regulations

      Compensation

      • Teacher Salary: Based on the La Joya ISD Teacher Pay Scale, determined by verified years of experience and certifications
      • Coaching Stipend: Annual stipend per the La Joya ISD Athletics Stipend Schedule (Head Coach – Swimming)

      Working Conditions

      Physical Demands:

      • Must be able to supervise athletic practices, demonstrate drills, and travel with student-athletes
      • Physical stamina required for extended hours during game days, tournaments, and training periods

      Work Environment:

      • Classroom, gymnasium, and athletic facilities
      • Evening and weekend duties expected, especially during basketball season
      • Regular contact with students, parents, coaching staff, and community members
