- Apply Dow global work processes and Dow electrical safety standards to write safe work permits (confined space, excavation, elevated safe work, EWP-13 Reviews and Electrical Safe Work Permit (ESWP), etc.)
- Switch out and clear the high voltage electrical equipment.
- Seamlessly transfer substations and breakers.
- Write detailed/quality job procedures.
- Initial troubleshooting high and low voltage electrical issues (transformers, breakers, switchgear, etc.)
- First and last response to electrical issues within the power distribution system.
- A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required and one of the following:
- An Electrical Certification or License.
- An Associate’s degree or higher in Electrical or Instrumentation.
- Currently enrolled in an Associate degree or higher in Electrical or Instrumentation
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in the chemical/petrochemical industry.
- Expected to serve hurricane duty.
- On call on continuous 24/7 call-out status.
- Must live or relocate within a 45-minute maximum response time of the site.
- Must have a current, valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to work weekends, and holidays, if required.
- Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular scheduled) if required.

- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in low, medium and high voltage electrical distribution systems (2.4 – 345 kV).
- Line Crew experience.
- Software experience in Outlook, Word, Excel and SAP would be an asset.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
- Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
- Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
- Able to stand 50% of the time.
- Lift a minimum of 55 lbs.
- This role does involve elevated work on an infrequent basis.
- Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.

About You and this Role
Dow has an opening for a High Voltage Switchman in the Power Distribution group at the Freeport, Texas location.
In this job, you will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the 345kV, 138 kV, 69 kV, 15kV and 2.4kV electrical distribution systems in Plants A, B, Oyster Creek, and Stratton Ridge.
Responsibilities
A very strong safety focus is required. The selected candidate must have experience and knowledge of medium to high voltage electrical distribution and transmission systems. The candidate will be responsible for identifying and communicating hazards around transmission lines and substations. The candidate will be involved in developing and using procedures to perform their job tasks. The candidate will need to have excellent people skills which will allow them to effectively interface with peers and leaders across Texas Operations.
This job will involve significant amount of driving within a 15-mile radius to the various electrical facilities around Texas Operations. Safe driving skills and ability to work independently is a must. The job will require climbing ladders, kneeling on the floor to rack out metal clad breakers, walking in the pole lines, opening high voltage switches, and at times working in elevated positions.
Normal working schedule is days Monday - Friday. Due to the nature of the job, you will typically start permitting around 6:30 am and close out permits around 6:00 pm on a rotating basis working in cooperation with other Switchmen in the department. Selected candidate will be expected to serve as a member of department hurricane duty personnel and will be on continuous 24/7 call-out status within a 45-minute maximum response time of the site with regard to off hour electrical distribution system issues.The Power Distribution team is a highly empowered team and is a salaried operation, however this role is still eligible for overtime pay. Preference will be given to those that can demonstrate a history of working with these values.
