  An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join our small but specialist team of Cardiac Physiologists in the Heart Investigations Unit here at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

  The post is based at our city centre Children's Hospital, a leading UK specialist paediatric centre, offering expert care to 90,000 children and young people from across the country every year. We are a world leader in some of the most advanced treatments, complex surgical procedures and cutting-edge research and development.

  Our Heart Investigations Unit currently provides a full range of cardiac investigations for outpatients, cardiac and non-cardiac inpatients and critical care patients. The successful candidate will take an active role in all areas of our Cardiac Physiology service except Echo. You will work within a well-equipped Cardiac department amongst some of the leading specialists in congenital heart disease and inherited cardiac conditions. We have strong clinical input and support and you will have the ability to work with our medical colleagues to develop your skills and knowledge.

  The post is for 37.5 hrs/week, worked over 5 days on an 9am to 5pm working pattern (Monday-Friday). The post holder is expected to participate in an out of hours on-call rota.

  Main duties of the job

  To demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of routine techniques to include ECG, ambulatory ECG and BP recording and interpretation, Exercise Tolerance Testing, Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise Testing, pacemaker implantation and follow up, provision of hemodynamic monitoring during both diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization.

  Experience and Qualifications

  Essential

  • BSc Clinical Physiology (with Cardiology specialist option) from RCCP / SCST approved educational provider; or equivalent qualification / experience as approved by RCCP / SCST
  • Specialist accreditation in Cardiac Pacing, ie BHRS or IBHRE or equivalent
  • Proficient in and possesses a strong underpinning knowledge of the provision of haemodynamic monitoring during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisation procedures, to include right & left heart catheters.
  • Competent in and possesses a good underpinning knowledge of pacemaker implantation and follow-up.
  • Extensive experience of employment as a Senior Echocardiographer in a Clinical setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to include presentation skills. Able to convey complex and sensitive information.
  • Good team player
  • Good organisational and time management skills. Able to delegate. Efficient and effective.
  • Capable of working with a high degree of autonomy where required
  • Shows willingness to accept accountability for decision-making
  • Professional in appearance
  • Good health record
  • Desire to work with Children
  • Highly proficient in and possesses a strong underpinning knowledge of resting and ambulatory ECG and BP recording and interpretation of exercise testing.
