What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct coding audits of complex inpatient records to validate code assignments
- Provide detailed rationale and evidence for audit findings
- Deliver educational feedback to coding staff
- Identify and resolve coding issues
- Initiate physician queries for documentation clarification
- Collaborate with clinical documentation improvement team
- Review and research billing edits
- Assist with DRG denials and write appeal letters
- Interpret coding guidelines and coverage determinations
- Maintain accuracy and productivity standards
- Train and mentor new staff
- Perform research for special projects
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Comprehensive understanding of coding guidelines and resources
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Associate's degree in Health Information or applicable healthcare field
- 3-5 years of progressive coding experience in an acute care hospital setting
- AHIMA certification (RHIA, RHIT, or CCS)
- Experience with Meditech and 3M 360
- Must live within a Steward hiring state
