  Overview

  A busy couple is seeking a professional live-in or live-out Housekeeper/Cook to work primarily at their residence in Brooklyn Heights, NY, and also live-in and work at their Cape Cod, MA home during the summer months (late June through late August). Private live-in accommodations are provided in both Brooklyn Heights and Cape Cod. Schedule is Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm but must have flexibility for occasional weekends for events/dinners. The principal's staff stays for many, many years. The Brooklyn Heights residence is a smaller townhome with 3 floors; a main suite and office on the main floor, guest rooms on the upper floor (not always used), and the basement apartment for the candidate if they want to live-in on the bottom floor.

  Responsibilities

  • Full-charge housekeeping
  • Deep cleaning
  • Care of fine art and silver
  • Laundry, ironing, steaming, and handling delicate fabrics
  • Maintaining household organization
  • Managing mail and packages
  • Vendor management
  • Running errands (car provided)
  • They have a Chef already who cooks beginning on Friday evening dinners through Monday morning breakfasts, but the candidate to hire must be able to cook lunches and dinners, occasional breakfasts, follow recipes, and serve meals as needed for two principals during the week. The wife is vegan but eats fish or lamb at times and her husband eats anything.
  • Summers are spent at the quaint beachfront Cape Cod home. The candidate would help the Chef over the weekend as well as needed and would get two other days off during the week if working a weekend. There are sometimes extended families over for weekends but they can have a cleaning company help during those times as needed.
  • During the winter months, when the principals travel, the focus will shift to organizing projects and deep cleaning

  Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • A strong command of English
  • Formal home experience
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong communication skills
  • Emotional intelligence, can read a room, not overly chatty
  • The principal values punctuality so being on time is important
  • There are no pets in the household, but some family members may have dogs around when on the Cape so must be comfortable around dogs

  Salary and Benefits

  • $95K–$110K DOE
  • PTO

  • Additional benefits (IRA with matching 3%) offered after three months of employment
  • If live-in, the Brooklyn Heights residence has a basement apartment for the candidate if they want to live-in. The apartment has 1 bedroom and 2 bathrooms but 1 of those bathrooms is used for household tasks.
  • In the Cape Cod home there is a suite off the kitchen with a bedroom, bath, and sitting room for the candidate to hire to reside in during summers there
