Job Description

- Maintain gardens for aesthetic appeal and safety, designing and planting annual beds and seasonal planters.
- Select, purchase, and plant greenery, ensuring proper conditions and patient safety. Improve perennial beds by splitting and replanting.
- Manage planters, remove invasive species, and apply environmentally friendly pest control methods.
- Monitor and maintain greenhouse controls, irrigation systems, fountains, and perform minor repairs.
- Trim shrubs, remove weeds, litter, and debris to ensure clean, accessible pathways.
- Assess and recommend tree maintenance, ensuring native species integration.
- Utilize CAD or similar software for garden documentation and planning.
- Adhere to regulatory compliance standards (DNR, Joint Commission) and educate others as needed.
- Operate power tools and landscaping equipment safely.
- Interact professionally with patients, fostering positive engagement.
- Assist in designing and maintaining horticultural programs for residents.
- Provide plant education for therapists and residents.
- Refinish and maintain outdoor furniture and facility interiors.
- Assist with snow removal using shovels, snowblowers, and salt/sand application.
- Uphold department goals, policies, and hospital mission.
- Participate in team meetings and improvement projects.
- Maintain professionalism in communication and conduct.
- Follow hospital policies, dress professionally, and engage in professional development.
- Five (5) or more years horticultural experience with in-depth knowledge of plant culture, maintenance and identification.
- Degree/Certification in horticulture or related field.
- Ability to work alone or in groups, in all weather conditions.
- Ability to perform self-directed work, prioritize projects, and manage time wisely.
- Flexibility to work long hours, holidays and weekends, as necessary.
- Computer proficiency.
- Applicant may be required to pass a written and practical exam.
- Valid Wisconsin driver license required.
