What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD and CPT codes for billing and compliance
- Accurately code outpatient and inpatient conditions and procedures following official guidelines
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to address documentation concerns
- Validate and assign codes for various patient types, ensuring compliance with coding regulations
- Assist in preparing responses to DRG validation requests and other inquiries related to coding
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Medical Coding Diploma or AHIMA approved Health Information Management Degree or related program
- Minimum of two years of coding and reimbursement experience in a multi-specialty setting or completion of coding degree
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- AAPC or AHIMA credential (i.e., CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CPC, CPC-H, COC) within one year of hire
