What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures according to ICD guidelines and UHDDS
- Identify and assign appropriate MS-DRG or APR-DRG for complex inpatient services
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to address documentation concerns
- Assist in preparing responses to DRG validation requests and third-party payer inquiries
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology and coding guidelines

What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum educational requirement: AHIMA or AAPC approved Medical Coding Diploma, Health Information Management Degree, or related program
- Minimum of three years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility
- Active credential of Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required at time of hire
- Extensive knowledge of Coding Clinic and official coding guidelines
- Advanced problem-solving skills and attention to detail

How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with electronic health record systems
- Academic or level I or II trauma experience
- Preferred AAPC credential: CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder)
