      Job Description:

      JOB PURPOSE:

      The Caretaker (Housekeeper) is responsible for the general cleanliness and upkeep of the building and/or grounds. Responsible for the daily functioning of the housekeeping operations of Winnipeg Centre of Hope programs by maintaining cleanliness of all Offices, Common Areas of building and all Residential Floors; completing of laundry duties as required

      CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES

      The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

      • Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as required

      • Performs a number of minor repairs and duties in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting; reports safety concerns and major repair issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures)

      • Ensures the general upkeep of facility such as, residents rooms, cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums

      • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required

      • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning the main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs and raking

      • Checks doors and windows to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the facility and secures the facility as needed

      • Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received material as required

      • Spot washes accessible walls, strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpets as required

      • Provide laundry and seamstress services

      • Maintain the care and inventory of laundry supplies

      • Maintains required records and reports (as necessary)

      • Changes linens (i.e., bedding), following hazardous materials procedures

      • Performs other duties as assigned

      MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

      The successful job applicant will have completed Public School, and/or High School.

      NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

      MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

      More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including life skills, and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.

      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

      • Vaccination for Hepatitis

      • WHMIS Training

      • Valid Certification in First Aid/CPR

      • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search

      • Adult Abuse Registry Check

      • Child Abuse Registry Check

      • Driver’s Abstract

      • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training

      • Use of protective masks (as needed)

      WORKING CONDITIONS:

      • This is a unionized, full time position at 40 hours per week.

      • Weekly schedule is Tuesday to Saturday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (30m unpaid meal break)

      • The performance of the job requires operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping and sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.

      • The incumbent is required to lift more than 20 pounds.

      • The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.

      • Ability to work independently; maintain confidentiality; while part of a larger team, projecting a positive, professional and helpful attitude

      • The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees.

      • The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the entire facility and surrounding property designated.

      • The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Handle garbage, isolation and monotony, odours, dealing with angry people, verbal abuse, exposure to toxic chemicals, various weather conditions and washrooms (i.e. human waste)

      Compensation:

      The target hiring range for this position is $16.12 to $16.12 with a maximum of $16.12.

      Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
