Job Description

- Provide technical support to asphalt lab and delivery testing results for time-sensitive customer requests or field trial needs.
- Routinely generate binder formulations containing bitumen (asphalt), catalyst, and polymers.
- Operate laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation including, but not limited to mixers and high shear mixers, ovens, high and low-temperature rheometers, viscometers, pressurized aging equipment, specialized tensile measurement, and others.
- Ability to learn and build skills with new equipment such as small-scale compounding for melt blending polymers.
- Performs specialty resins application testing such as making coating of polymer dispersion, adhesion test for coextruded films or laminated composite structures.
- Use computer software to plan, analyze, and evaluate laboratory experiments and data utilizing Excel, Nautilus LIMS, Word, PowerPoint, ELN and available research software.
- Develop proficiency in all routine laboratory methods critical for innovation projects and customer technical support (cross-training; back-up); commitment to working safely and building a strong safety culture.
- Communicate results through oral and written research reports, ELN, data presentations, and direct interaction with chemists, engineers, and leadership.
- A minimum of associate degree in STEM related field.
- Must be proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and be able to learn new systems quickly.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.

The High Pressure Copolymers (HPC) Product R&D is hiring for an R&D Technician to join our team and to be located at the Dow Texas Innovation Center in Lake Jackson, TX.
The selected candidate will support several key HPC product technologies, including asphalt binder development laboratory, small-scale compounding for melt blending polymers, and specialty resins application testing such as packaging films and coatings.
Dow’s HPC product portfolio serves high-value, and high-technology application areas like compatibilization for recycle, structural glass, medical and high barrier food packaging, asphalt modification, building panels, and electronic vehicles. Trends in sustainability, transportation electrification, safe building standards, and investment in infrastructure offer new opportunities and pose new technology challenges in this product portfolio.
About you and this role - What you will do in this role
You would be expected to have a strong safety record, technical focus, analytical acumen, and growth mindset to support new development areas and customer innovation projects. You are also expected to balance your workload across customer requests and laboratory improvement initiatives and laboratory maintenance. You would need to deliver effective and timely communication of results to researchers, scientists and project stakeholders.
