      Band: UKRI Band D (UKRI Ts & Cs)

      Salary: £34,905 gross per annum

      Reports to: HR Business Partner – Innovate UK

      Location: Swindon (Hybrid)

      Contract: Fixed Term to 31.03.25 #

      Job Purpose
      This role will involve predominantly supporting people related issues and casework, as well as HR projects and provision of administrative support.

      Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

      • To provide well-informed, problem-solving advice, drawing on a sound knowledge of employment law and UKRI HR Policies, to meet the needs of Innovate UK, demonstrating a flexible, risk-based approach. Where necessary escalating issues to the HR Business Partners

      • To take on a portfolio of HR casework, including that related to probation, health, capability and conduct including support with investigations and at informal and formal meetings

      • To undertake specific projects, as required

      • To be the key liaison point for the Early Careers Team with regard to the Innovate UK Graduate scheme

      • To advise on job profiles and grading, including liaison with the Reward Team as necessary regarding JEGS and other reward matters

      • Drafting letters for employees and tracking receipt of signed/returned documents

      • Maintaining the Workday HR system; undertaking audits to ensure employee details are accurate, making amendments to employee records and ensuring associated paperwork is uploaded to the employee record

      • Reviewing administrative processes and implementing changes for improvement

      • Producing periodic and ad-hoc reports as required

      • Providing general administrative assistance; managing records, filing, scanning, archiving, document production and scheduling as necessary

      • Supporting the training of new team members

      This is not an exhaustive list and the post-holder might be expected to undertake any other duties across the wider directorate, commensurate with the Band and level of responsibility of this post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training.

      Person Specification:

      Qualifications:

      Essential –

      • CIPD qualified to level 3 or higher, or equivalent, or

      • Demonstrable HR workplace experience

      Experience:

      Essential -

      • Case management skills and ability to work in policy rich organisation

      • Strong experience acting as a first point of contact for a busy team, demonstrating a confident approach to managing queries and redirecting customers

      • Confirmed experience of working with multiple partners, providing proactive support, and handling multiple deadlines concurrently

      • Coaching line managers in dealing with people issues

      Desirable –

      • Use of Workday system

      Skills:

      • Up to date knowledge of Employment law

      • Good problem solving and analysis skills, able to balance competing demands and assess risks of potential solutions

      • Presentational skills, so as to be able to deliver training, or present against HR business plan

      • Clear self-organisation skills with the ability to prioritise workload

      • Very good interpersonal skills; able to handle difficult discussions

      • Excellent written communication skills sufficient to produce clear, concise and accurate documents

      • A hands-on attitude, able and willing to deal with staff at all levels

      • Initiative and the ability to make impartial and well-considered judgments

      • Practical approach, and able to work collaboratively

      • Outstanding administration skills demonstrated consistently

      Travel Requirements:

      There may be the occasional requirement for national travel.
