      HR Generalist II

      Organization Description:

      through love and respect. We provide services that heal communities challenged by the intersection of extreme
      poverty, mental illness, addiction, and homelessness. When individuals are suffering in our public spaces, Urban

      turn it around. Urban Alchemy staff, known as Practitioners, create a peaceful and supportive presence, helping
      our communities rebuild a sense of pride one person at a time. Urban Alchemy is a nonprofit organization
      founded in 2018. We quickly grew from a small program in San Francisco to a thriving social enterprise with over
      1,300 staff. We currently have operations in California, Oregon, and Texas and continue to expand nationally.

      Position Summary:
      Human Resources Generalist II is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in
      designated Operations units. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added
      service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. They will partner
      with recruiting, training, benefits, and payroll colleagues to deliver solutions to problems encountered by
      employees. They will guide and partner with Operations Supervisors and Directors related to performance
      management, HR programs, and from time-to-time may assist in employee relations matters. They are the
      primary owner of offboarding procedures, including conducting investigations to assess risk factors associated
      with termination decisions. They will maintain an effective level of business and operational literacy about the
      organization’s plan, its culture, and its competition. They will have flexibility in handling day-to-day routines as
      well as surprises. In partnership with other business unit leaders, they are essential to nurturing a positive,
      inclusive work environment.


      Position Duties and Responsibilities:
      Position Specific:
      • Conducts regular meetings with respective business units
      • Consults with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate
      • Conducts workplace investigations of employees who have been placed on administrative leave and
      documents investigations in a thorough manner
      • Conducts investigations of injuries sustained at work and documents investigations in a thorough manner
      • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies

      • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees,
      reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
      • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling,
      career development, disciplinary actions)
      • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and
      increase productivity and retention
      • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation
      • Maintains compliance posture for offboarding and wage and hour workflows
      • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning
      • Identifies training needs with Manager, Human Resources and partners with training colleagues to ensure
      training delivery is at the forefront of the employee experience
      • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended
      best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
      • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human
      resources, talent management, and employment law
      • Ability to run reports from HRIS system and analyze them for trends
      • Supports HRIS team in maintaining the health of the HRIS system
      • Acts as champion of the HR department’s mission, vision, and values
      • Become immersed in Urban Alchemy’s culture to assist in developing cultural moments and events that
      reinforce our organization’s values

      General:

      state, and local regulations as well as Urban Alchemy’s policies

      • Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor

      Position Requirements:
      Position Specific:
      • 5+ years of HR experience, which includes HR business partnering experience, preferably in a high growth
      start up organization
      • Has broad knowledge of HR principles and best practices
      • Has working knowledge of how HR workflows and systems work
      • Has exceptional people skills and excellent judgement that allows you to remain neutral in the face of
      confidential, challenging, and sensitive information
      • Has the ability to juggle multiple demands throughout the day and manage competing priorities
      • Has excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
      • Has strong desire to deliver quality work that is precise and accurate
      • Has outstanding follow-through skills, is self-directed and highly motivated with a strong sense of urgency
      • Has strong knowledge of California and federal labor law (FMLA, wage, and hour, EEO, ADA, employment
      laws, etc.)
      • Has essential knowledge of how benefits plans work and payroll processes
      • Has excellent computer skills and knowledge of how to use office software programs, including HRIS
      systems and Google Suite
      • Ability to be resourceful with strong analytical skills with the ability to think creatively to solve problems
      • Ability to be a genuine team player with an interest in building community and authentic relationships
      • Ability to be comfortable in startup environment with high ambiguity
      • Enjoys paying attention to detail and being meticulous
      • Values being kind to teammates, employees, guests, and others

      • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
      General:

      • Expected to work in all weather conditions
      • Walking: 1+ hours
      • Standing: 1+ hours
      • Sitting: 7+ hours
      • Bending at Waist: Less than 1 hour per day
