INTERNSHIP TITLE: 2024 HUMAN RESOURCES INTERN
DEPARTMENT: HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT
STATUS: Paid Intern (non-employee)
ACTIVITY SUMMARY:
This intern will gain experience in a variety of HR functions including Performance Management, training and development gap analysis, planning for leadership development, interpreting data from employee engagement surveys to inform future activities, and compensation philosophy and practice. Knowledge of HR functions will be a valuable asset to any individual looking to obtain a degree in Business or a career in management.
Note: this internship position exists for individuals willing to volunteer their services without expectation or contemplation of compensation.
POSITION SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES AND CORRESPONDING EDUCATIONAL GOALS: ACTIVITY
EDUCATIONAL GOAL
The intern will contribute to Employee Handbook review and policy development including researching best practices and benchmark information, garnering support by senior leadership for new employment policies and changes. Assist with communication plan development if time permits.
The intern will gain knowledge of employment laws and employer choices to create a safe and positive working environment. The intern obtain experience with leading conversations with senior executives and be able to practice communication skills in a professional environment.
The intern will participate in FLSA review and reclassification.
The intern will learn about the recent change in law and employer and employee considerations for change. They will also become familiar with the various jobs and will learn how the roles complement each other to create a successful enterprise.
The intern will participate in creating new employee orientation program materials.
The intern will obtain experience developing engaging and informative employee communications. Through this they will have a chance to practice writing skills, plus experience to receive feedback and learning from it.
As time permits, the intern will review results of performance evaluations to identify patterns and skill development needed for workforce and individuals. They will create an executive summary which will inform future staff development training and targeted leadership coaching.
The intern will obtain hands on knowledge and experience: creating executive-level summaries in a business setting, honing organization and analysis skills, and making recommendations regarding future leadership development offerings.
