      HUD Underwriting

We are Walker & Dunlop. We are one of the largest providers of capital to the commercial real estate industry, enabling real estate owners and operators to bring their visions of communities — where people live, work, shop, and play — to life. We are committed to creating meaningful social, environmental, and economic change in our communities. We believe seeking diverse talent and promoting the inclusion of all perspectives are more than moral imperatives – they are critical to our success and ability to innovate and grow.

Walker & Dunlop’s Summer Internship Program provides a dynamic environment for students to learn aspects of the commercial real estate finance industry. Each year, W&D invites a distinguished group of interns to participate in a ten-week training and mentoring program to help build their skills and learn about the organization. Interns will play supporting and individual contributor roles and have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our business through hands-on training. If you are looking for a summer internship in commercial real estate finance, the below opportunity may be for you.

Our FHA Finance team works with borrowers to obtain a HUD insured loan on multifamily and senior housing properties. The team is comprised of production and underwriting staff. The production staff are in a sales role working with clients to originate loan opportunities. Once a loan is engaged, the underwriting staff work with the client to prepare an application to HUD and identify strengths and weaknesses of a loan, putting appropriate mitigants into place. Once the application is submitted, the WD FHA Team works closely with HUD staff as they review the application, issue a commitment to insure and ultimately close the loan. WD is the #5 overall HUD lender in HUD FY 2023, and the #2 overall HUD construction loan lender.
