The UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health is seeking a part-time team member to join The UNC Farm at Penny Lane, a 40-acre campus in northern Chatham County, which offers holistic, recovery-oriented, therapeutic programming that is complementary to traditional clinical services. The UNC Farm at Penny Lane aims to provide a place of belonging for individuals living with serious and persistent mental illness, reducing stigma, embodying hope, and supporting participants to become healthier and more self-sufficient in a non-traditional environment. Situated on a working farm, current program offerings include therapeutic horticulture activities, animal assisted programs, expressive arts activities, and cooking and wellness classes.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist individuals impacted by serious mental illness and those at risk for homelessness through life skills classes and communal therapeutic activities. Instruction will focus on daily living skills, which is an essential component of individuals' health and recovery. Areas of focus may include cooking, meal preparation and nutrition, financial literacy, employment, self-care, or other wellness topics depending on the needs of the participants and skill set of the team member. Classes and group activities also support the socialization and recovery needs of individuals, and this position will engage with participants in a therapeutic, supportive and professional manner.
