      Overview

      As part of the Hutchins Scholars in Social Justice Summer Research Institute, the Hutchins Institute for Social Justice seeks candidates for the position of Non-Residential Teaching Assistant (TA) Intern.

      Serving as a Non-Residential TA Intern for the Hutchins Scholars in Social Justice program provides the opportunity to advance their knowledge and practice of social justice work, gain experience in course development and teaching, and develop important skills in project management and event programming.

      Responsibilities

      Non-Residential TA Interns are expected to be available for a maximum of 40 hours/week (maximum 6 days/week), Sunday, June 9 - Saturday, June 22, 2024, for instructional and experiential learning activities, including setup and break down. Typically, an instructional day begins at 9am and ends at 4pm.

      In addition, all TA staff are expected to be available for two meetings in the spring term.

      All Non-Residential TA Interns will be responsible for:

      • Assisting in the preparation and organization of learning materials (recommending materials and assignments, preparing discussion/facilitation guides, etc.)
      • Preparing for class meetings (by reviewing course materials in advance)
      • Assisting in and/or leading one or more class discussions
      • Setting up tech and other room logistics
      • Working with students in group or individual consultations
      • Chaperoning group trips (along with instructor)
      • Maintaining daily communication with students
      • Completing other administrative duties as assigned
      • Monitoring students during study hall
      • Checking in students in the evening

      TA Interns are expected to model maturity, responsibility, leadership, and commitment to social justice learning, practice, and ethics. Discretion, organization, punctuality, communication, and follow-through are critical to the success of persons in this role.

      Qualifications

      In order to be eligible for this opportunity, candidates must be:

      • Graduates of The Lawrenceville School
      • Past participants in the Hutchins Scholars in Social Justice program
