- The HVAC Mechanic / Boiler Operator is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and boiler systems throughout the hospital and its facilities. This role includes routine preventative maintenance, diagnosing system malfunctions, and ensuring optimal system performance to support patient and staff comfort and safety
- The position supports overall Engineering Department operations and participates in a mandatory on-call rotation
- Operate, monitor, and maintain boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and HVAC systems
- Change air filters and perform water treatment chemical tests
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC and boiler systems and associated equipment
- Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical devices including pumps, motors, medical air systems, and fan coil units
- Respond to maintenance calls and perform scheduled preventive maintenance
- Maintain accurate records of equipment service and maintenance
- Supervise and assist Maintenance Technicians I and II when assigned
- Comply with all applicable safety and regulatory standards
- Participate in departmental meetings, training, and required documentation
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering
- Good working knowledge of HVAC, boiler systems, and general mechanical operations
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
- Strong problem-solving, diagnostic, and technical skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Computer skills helpful for maintenance logs and documentation
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently under semi-stressful conditions
- High school diploma or GED required
- Some college preferred
- HVAC Journeyman license required
- Department of Labor (DOL) Boiler Operator license required
- Additional certifications may be required within time frame specified by facility policy
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in HVAC and boiler operations
- Hospital or healthcare facility experience strongly preferred
